I’m a fashion/ bag designer and vocational trainer. After high school, I got two admissions from the University of Jordan, the first in Visual arts and the second in Accounting. Until now, I don’t know how I chose Accounting! Art and design are really what I’ve always been interested in and, after a trip through many fields, my passion brought me back to the right track. In 2013, I established my project “Farha Designs” and started designing and producing simple clothes and bags pieces, but most of my attempts were unsuccessful as access to knowledge, materials and people with expertise isn’t easy at the local level. This only made me more determined to pursue this field. I want to represent a new generation of artisans, not only designers, and to be a bridge for future generations. I cooperated with local designers and artisans to produce pieces and collections, I learned from everyone, and because I believe in sharing knowledge and experience, I began holding training workshops and collaborating with professional artisans.
أنا مصمِّمةُ أزياء وحقائب، ومُدرِّبة حِرفيَّة. بعد انتهائي من الثانويَّة العامَّة، حصلتُ على قبولين من الجامعة الأردنيَّة. كان الأوَّل في تخصُّص الفنون البصريَّة، والثاني في المحاسبة. وحتَّى الآن لا أدري كيف اخترتُ المحاسبة، مع أنَّ الفنَّ والتَّصميم لطالما استهوَياني حقًّا. وبعد رحلة في مجالات عدَّة، أعادَني شغفي إلى المسار الصحيح، ففي عام 2013م، أسَّستُ مشروعي الخاصَّ ‘‘فرحة ديزاينز’’، وبدأتُ بتصميم قطع ملابس وحقائب بسيطة وإنتاجها. لكنَّ المؤسف أنَّ أغلبَ محاوَلاتي باءت بالفشل؛ فالوصول إلى المعرفة والموادِّ وأصحاب الخبرات والحرفيِّين ليس أمرًا سهلًا على المستوى المحلِّيّ. وهذا ما زاد من إصراري على المتابعة في هذا المجال؛ فأنا أرغب في تمثيل جيلٍ جديدٍ من الحرفيِّين وليس فقط المصمِّمين، وأن أكونَ وغيري جسْرَ عُبورَ لأجيالٍ لاحقة. تعاونتُ مع عددٍ من المصمِّمين والحرفيِّين المحلِّيِّين، لإنتاج قطع ومجموعات، وتعلَّمتُ منهم جميعًا. ولإيماني بضرورة مشاركة المعرفة بين المصمِّمين والحرفيِّين، بدأتُ بعَقْد ورش تدريب في مجال تصميم الحقائب وصناعتها بالتعاون مع حرفيِّين متخصِّصين.
Name of the collection: Patterns of the Desert
In most of my designs, I try to reflect something from the local heritage or culture: shapes, colors, language, and behavior.
In this collection of bags, I adopted the edgy box shape in a size that fits the personality of the practical woman and accommodates what she may need during the day.
The embroidered patterns on the bag are inspired by the geometric shapes used in Bedouin rugs, but in a simplified and abstract way. Even the colors are those most used in the heritage pieces, but I preferred to use only two colors in each bag to add a kind of simplicity and modernity.
Material: Synthetic chamois, synthetic embroidery threads.
